Ideating is best defined as ‘forming an idea’, the ideating stage can be the most crucial as it sets out the overall goal and direction for your project. Now that I’ve completed the first stage of my digital artefact project the ‘ideating’ phase, it’s been noted that my skills in editing and time management need major improvement. Going back to the start of my ideas phase, I found it really hard to come up with something that was exciting and simple for me to create yet intriguing enough for my potential audience. Only having enrolled into the class the Friday before it was due this proved to be really difficult, I ended up tossing up between 2 very vague ideas. My original idea was to create a blog, where I review/document my experiences at various events mainly festivals and hopefully produce a small video clip of the overall occasion. My second idea for a digital artefact was too make cheap meals for uni students on a budget. I decided to stick with the first idea because it was something that I’m already doing and have done plus it can also be a way to inform readers about the prejudice that’s surrounded with music festivals and drug-use in Australia.
I started by creating a website on WordPress as it has a somewhat easily accessible interface, next I gathered all my photos and started writing about my previous experiences at festivals and events. I’m trying to increase my online presence slowly by posting 1 or more pieces before the end of month (31st of Aug) and prompting via twitter to gain traction, while trying to find a visual idea for a layout and product design that goes with the themes and topics I’m exploring through my experiences.
Referring to Marques Journal on “A descriptive framework of the design process from a dual cognitive-engineering perspective”.
“It comprises all stages of a thought cycle, such as product design and progress reports and the initial “fuzzy front end phase of an innovative design process” (Marques et al, 2014)
I found that in my initial aim to start forming my idea into a digital artefact, it was hard to know what direction to take and how I would design my website in an image that would appeal to both of my target markets as they comprised of different geographical, demographic and psychographic segmentation and to overcome this.
My original idea included promoting local upcoming artists and bands, I realised after talking to friends and family that I don’t know any artist or bands personally, and this may go against Ted methods if FIST. So in the best interest of my time I put away that idea for now, but potentially may include it later on depending how my well my social connection skills improve.
Overall I haven’t had any activity on my site as of yet, but that wont deter me, I’m hoping to post soon after the editing of my videos are finished.
